Best things about Philadelphia
I want to get you excited about your relocation. I grew up in Philadelphia with my mom so I thought of preparing you a list of some of my favorite spots and things about this city that set it apart for all others.
- Reading Terminal Market is a world famous indoor market with fresh produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods, and international foods from local vendors.
- Philly cheesesteak joints are must-visit spots for sampling Philadelphia’s famous sandwich. Spilt one with a friend, these are huge meals. My favorite is Jim’s steaks but you should be prepared for a hunk of Cheese Whiz. It is not for the faint hearted or those with heart issues.
- The Italian Market is one of the oldest and largest outdoor markets in the country with the best authentic foods around.
- Chinatown for all your shopping needs is a must do at least once.
- IMAX theater is a must see with kids or to bring out the inner child in you.
- Fairmount Park is my favorite Saturday spot with a book and some snacks, you should be set for the day.
- South Street is a lively spot known for its mix of shops, restaurants, bars, and live music. It is honestly a cool spot at all ages but was my favorite at age 15.
Important to Know Before Moving To Philadelphia
When planning your relocation to Philly there are many factors that you should take into consideration. Let’s discuss a few critical ones.
1. Cost of Living
Philadelphia’s cost of living is pretty average compared to other major cities on the East Coast. That being said, you should do your research to be able to budget correctly for housing, utilities, car, and other expenses to ensure that you are planning with the right ballpark numbers.
2. Neighborhoods
Philadelphia is a city of varied neighborhoods that really differ one from another. Before deciding where to move, make sure that the spot fits your vibes and needs.. Consider safety, distance to work and school school, public transit if you aren’t moving with your car, access, and distance to things you love.
There are many culturally different neighborhoods like Chinatown and downtown areas that might not be a good fit for you, so don’t just choose by price and location, go visit.
3. Jobs
Philly’s job market in 2024 is known to be pretty strong with many companies hiring. Downtown Philly is filled with all the top companies in the world, and if needed the commute to NYC is simple.
Average salaries align with the moderate costs of living overall, so add this into your financial planning.
4. Getting Around
Philadelphia has a really great public transportation system, with buses at all hours of the night, trains, trolleys, and subways. You might feel comfortable selling your car before the move. Walking and biking to get around is also very possible if you move downtown.
5. Temperatures
Philadelphia has all four seasons, with hot summers, very cold winters, and mild springs and autumns. Be prepared with the right items in your closet for very hot and very cold days.

Philadelphiais known for it’s history, culture, and entertainment scene with tons of tourists every year to see the Liberty Bell and hear the start of the democratic nation.
From great museums and historical landmarks to arts and music scenes for everyone, there’s always something to see here. Check out the awesome summer festivals, concerts, and events to start understanding why Philly is so great.
7. Crime
Like any urban area, you will find those neighborhoods with high levels of crime. Research crime statistics in your area before relocating to get a sense of the safety of different neighborhoods. A few blocks makes a huge difference in Philly.

These two factors are a make it or break it for most families. Philadelphia is home to several renowned hospitals and healthcare facilities. You will find some of the best quality of care in the US. Many sick and elderly actually relocate close to the hospitals in the city thanks to the great care.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I help my pets destress when moving homes?
Pets pick up on our energy so stay calm and show them the new space is a positive atmosphere. If you are stressed, you are likely to stress out your furry friend. Try and make the experience fun for them with lots of walks and treats.
Associate the move with positive things your pet loves to make the day less hard for them. Ensure to set up their home base as soon as you get into the new home so that they can feel they have their own corner with food, water and their bed.
What do I do if there is a gap in time between moving out of my old place and into my new place?
Book a mover with full storage options just made for your situation. Maybe you found the perfect new home, but have a month in between, or maybe you just crave that Bahamas vacation you never took. No matter the reason, just let us know and we will help you figure out a moving plan that makes sense.
Is a garage sale really profitable during the move and worth my time?
Depending on your advertising methods and items brought in, a garage sale can be a great way to make a few extra hundred bucks! Organizing and managing a garage sale can be very time consuming, so consider this before starting, as donating your unwanted items might be a better fit. The more items you are able to rid yourself of, the less packing materials you will need.
Is tipping my movers important?
Yes, even critical as this is part of the moving expenses you should take into account. Your moving team are hard workers helping you get from A to B. Tipping between 15-20% is expected by movers and drivers alike.
Think of it as if you’ve gone to a restaurant and left without tipping- not cool. Plan ahead for these costs so you aren’t surprised. Trust us.
What is the most important thing to know about booking a mover?
Know that you are working with a trusted and honest service provider that won’t rip you off at the last second or leave you hanging. If you have even a tad of doubt, walk away. Don’t try to cut corners and save on an unreputable mover as we promise you, you will end up paying way more in hidden fees and damages.
