A long distance move can cost you anywhere from $3,200 to $10,500. We’ve seen a few that were cheaper or more expensive, but the $3,200 to $10,500 range covers most of the bases.
The final price of your move depends on how far you have to go, and how much you have to move. The distance is calculated in miles. As for the amount, that comes down to your movers: Some will create inventory lists, some do in-home estimates. Either way, they’ll assign a weight (in pounds) or a volume (in cubic feet) to all your stuff.
Long distance moving takes between 1 and 21 days. Part of this is due to federal rules and regulations, since drivers aren’t allowed to log more than 400 miles of interstate travel per day. But a big part of the duration of your move comes down to how far you’re going, and how much you’re hauling.
